About Heriot-Watt University
Heriot-Watt University is the eighth oldest university in England and was founded in 1821 as the Edinburgh School of Art, the world’s first mechanical engineering institute. It became a university by charter in 1966. Over a third of his 7,000 students at Heriot-Watt’s Edinburgh campus come from outside the UK, and this international focus reflects his 150 countries around the world studying in international programs. Heriot-Watt has received awards from the Scottish Development Industry Council for its international outlook and is also highly regarded in science, mathematics, economics and management, engineering and the built environment.
